Frequently Asked Questions

Our deer velvet is sourced and handpicked from only the best New Zealand deer farmers. The deer are free-range and grass-fed in excellent growing conditions. All our farmers are Veterinary Association accredited and certified using strict animal welfare codes to ensure the wellbeing and safety of all animals.

Is the Animal Killed
for the Velvet?

No the animals are not killed for the antler. The antler re-grows each year.

Are the animals harmed
during the harvest of the velvet?

The animal is given a local anaesthetic around the antler base before it is removed. NZ has a code of practice and this code requires all farmers to velvet under Veterinary supervision or directive using humane methods of antler removal. Deer antler naturally casts each year but in farming situations the antler is removed at 55 to 60 days of its growth. All velvet antler removal has to be under the New Zealand “National Velveting Standards” code of practice. Velvet Antler naturally re-grows each year and it grows at around 2cm a day.

Do you use the fluffy outside of the velvet antler in the powder and capsules?

The fluffy outside of the antler is removed and we use all the remaining inside cartilage.

Can I take deer velvet
with my medications?

Most medications are ok with Deer Velvet use. We do caution you if you are using blood thinning drugs as deer velvet can have the same action. Always consult with your medical practitioner.

Why do you take
Deer Velvet?

As an anti-inflammatory, it can improve circulation, assist the immune system, speed healing and aid recovery. Velvet can supply the compounds or bodies needed for good joint care and mobility, improve stamina and energy levels. Velvet can also assist in regulating hormone balance. (*caution when used with blood thinning drugs as deer velvet may also thin the blood)

How long will it
take to work?

Every one varies in their response time. Some people notice a result in 2 – 3 weeks, for others it can be a slower process and they may take several months to notice a change. It is very common for the changes not to be noticed until one stops taking the velvet.

What dose should
I take?

It is important when first starting on Gevir premium to be consistent with your dose every day. Consistency is the key to success.

Dose: This can vary, we recommend 1 to 2 x 300mg capsule daily to start with. Most adults find this sufficient although some choose to take more. We have some extreme cases of arthritis who take 4 a day and also athletes that take up to 4 a day.

When to take: We suggest taking in the morning as this is also a time of routine, but evenings are ok – with or with out food is also ok. The time it takes to work can vary from 2 weeks to several months, it is not uncommon to hear of people who took our deer velvet for several months, did not think it was working until they stopped using it. Some choose to use the Velvet just during the winter months, as this is when they ache the most or when they get chilblains. We have a growing clientele who choose to use it all year around because they enjoy the added benefits of improved energy and no colds and flues.
