A Rich History In
Family & Farming


Started deer farming

Clint and his Father Bruce started deer farming in Takapau, Hawke’s Bay with captured wild deer. After many years of hard work and a mind to breeding they established a top velveting and sire stag herd called “Skagen Deer”.


Gevir Products Established

Clint and Shelley Thomsen established Gevir Products NZ Ltd. The word Gevir is Danish and means antler. They chose this name because of Clint’s Danish heritage. With Shelley using the deer velvet broth for her own health, establishing a business to make deer velvet readily available in New Zealand was an exciting and natural choice.

On farm processing factory built

The building was completed to MPI (Ministry of Primary Industries) specifications. Our own processing factory meant we were able to fully control the processing procedures and quality of our product. We obtained space on our 1st pharmacy shelf. This grew to over 300 retail stores throughout New Zealand.


Educating the public

We needed to educate people that the deer were not killed or harmed to obtain the velvet. To do this we travelled from Dargaville in the north of NZ to Christchurch in the South Island. We attended many Expo’s, talked on radio, TV, did endless newspaper and magazine interviews, promotions at shopping malls and pharmacy’s and hosted bus tours through our farm and processing factory. Shelley became known as the “Velvet Lady”.



Gevir goes online

Gevir launched it’s first website www.gevir.co.nz as a means to further educate the public on the benefits of deer velvet. This grew into a tool for further sales and export enquiries.

Josh & Penny Buckman

Josh and Penny Buckman together with their two young children George and Anna live on a farm south of Hastings, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand.

The Buckman family grow deer velvet and finish lamb on their farm and are passionate about providing the world with safe and nutritionally balanced food. After serious injury to Josh and recommendations from family and friends Josh and Penny started a journey to health and wellbeing through Gevir Premium Deer Velvet.

After using Gevir Premium Deer Velvet and experiencing first hand the positive benefits, the couple purchased the business from founders Clint and Shelley Thompson. Their experience of the products has aided in healing and increased levels of immunity, energy and general well being.

Josh and Penny feel so privileged to be able to provide a farming background as a part of their family’s upbringing, the high demands of farming, a young family and business they know they can rely on Gevir Premium Deer Velvet to keep them going without the struggles of sickness and exhaustion of everyday life.
